What is hacking ?
Unauthorized intrusion into a computer or a network is called hacking. A hacker is a person who engages in these activities. This hacker usually changes systems or security features to perform a task that differs from the original intent of the system
Non-malicious activities, usually involving improvised changes to process, are also categorized are used for hacking, including:
- Vulnerability scanner: checks for vulnerabilities on computers or networks
- Password cracking: as the name suggests, the process of hacking passwords from computer or networks
- Packet sniffer: captures data packets to look for passwords and other data being transmitted
- Spoofing attack: mimicking websites to obtain data from users programs which trust it as a legitimate site
- Trojan horse: mimics the famous ancient strategy of the Trojan horse to create backdoor access to the computer
- Viruses: self-replicating programs that spread by inserting copies of themselves into executable code or the network
- Key loggers: recording user keystrokes and retrieving them later to gain access to passwords, data and other personal information
